Light For the Journey
A Weekly Message from Pastor Roger Williams
"Faith for today.
Hope for Tomorrow"

The One who made the stars
Early this week as during a dawn walk I noticed Sirius, the brightest star we see in the night
sky. It is about 8.6 light-years away, while our Sun is only about eight light-minutes from us.
Sirius A is also much larger than the Sun—about 1.7 times its diameter, roughly twice its mass,
and about 25 times more luminous. The more I thought about the sheer scale of it all, the more I
felt a deep sense of humility and wonder. David captured that feeling when he wrote, “When I
consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars...what is man that You
are mindful of him?” (Psalm 8:3–4). And yet this same God, whose creative power stretches far
beyond anything we can comprehend, chose to reveal Himself personally in Jesus Christ. The
One who made the stars came near to us, walked among us, loved us, gave Himself for us, and
still knows each of us personally.
That thought stayed with me because it reminded me that God’s greatness is not meant to make
us feel forgotten—it should make His love seem even more amazing. We are small in
comparison to the universe, but we are not small to God. And often, when we truly encounter
His greatness and His grace, we also become more aware of His call on our lives. Isaiah
experienced that when he saw the Lord high and lifted up and then heard the question, “Whom
shall I send?” His response was, “Here am I! Send me” (Isaiah 6:8). As we move through this
week, may we take time to look up, remember how great our God is, rest in the knowledge that
we are deeply loved, and remain open to whatever He may be calling us to do. Lord, help us to
see Your greatness, trust Your love, and answer Your call with willing hearts.
